welcome to YouTube millionaires, where we profile the channels that recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. Channels cross that threshold every week, and every creator has a story to tell about YouTube’s success. Read previous installments here.
Katie Feeney is just your everyday student.
It is not our judgment, it is his. The 19-year-old Pennsylvania State University freshman and long-term student TIC Tac creator caused a sensation on Youtube in recent weeks, but even though her content is gaining more and more attention, she hopes everyone who watches her videos will leave knowing “I’m just an ordinary person, going to college and chasing my dreams. ! “
Relativity is a key part of Feeney’s content. She releases several videos every day, and none of them are big productions. These are quick clips, usually little changed, taken throughout the day. She may have racked up over a billion views on YouTube in three months, but she still has to manage the stress of homework in college and exams, the seemingly endless countdown to Christmas, and the pesky wasps doing their best to infest her dorm.
Feeney developed his Spur of the Moment and Slice of Life content angle as Musical.ly Creator. She joined the platform in 2015 and switched to TikTok when its owner, ByteDance, acquired Musical.ly and merged the two. His TikTok account now has over 6.5 million followers and generates hundreds of millions of views per month.
Like many TikTokers, Feeney started posting his content on YouTube shorts when it launched earlier this year. Since March, Feeney has uploaded more than 800 videos to his channel, generating more than 1.2 billion views in total.
And, of course, Feeney’s channel has now reached a million subscribers, making her an official YouTube millionaire.
Check out our conversation with her below.
Tubefilter: How does it feel to reach the million subscribers? What do you have to say to your viewers?
Katie Feeney: One million YouTube subscribers! JUST WOW! It is absolutely amazing !! The dream becomes reality!! I wanted to be YouTuber forever! I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who took a moment out of their busy day to click ‘subscribe’. It is thanks to you that it is even possible. I couldn’t have done it without your support.
Tubefilter: Tell us about yourself! Where do you come from? What were you doing before you became a content creator?
KF: Hi! I am Katie. I am a 19 year old Marylander. Currently, I am a freshman at Penn State University (WE ARE ……). I have been a dancer since I was very young. I danced competitively for over five years, and that’s what inspired me to start producing / creating content.
Tubefilter: When and why did you create a TikTok account? When and why did you start posting your short content on YouTube?
KF: First, I created my musical.ly account (like everyone else did). Once it merged with TikTok, it became a really fun way to create and post short-lived choreographed dance videos. Some of my dances REALLY took off which was super exciting! I partnered with The Network Effect, and we started to really expand my content mix into lifestyle content and reviews and recommendations in my other areas of passion: beauty, fashion, and tech / gadgets.
I’ve had a YouTube channel since 2016 and started trying long monthly videos. Once the YouTube Shorts beta was announced in February, I went all out. I love to innovate and be one of the first to adopt new features / platforms. It’s part of my DNA!
Tubefilter: What Can Viewers Always Expect From A Katie Feeney video?
KF: When one of my videos lands on your feed, my goal is to ALWAYS put a smile on your face!
Tubefilter: What do you hope people take away from your content?
KF: I’m just an ordinary person, go to college and chase my dreams! I like to share my moments of life and I appreciate that you joined me for the ride.
Tubefilter: How often do you film? How long does the average video take to come together? What does the average day look like for you?
KF: I film content every day! This is the power of the short form. Now that I’m in college, I create around my class schedule. An average day includes going to the gym (always), going to class, and then creating.
Tubefilter: Do you have any strategies to increase your audience? Have you noticed that one type of content has more appeal than others? Do you adjust what you film according to the reaction of your viewers?
KF: First and foremost, BE YOURSELF and don’t obsess over opinions, comments, and likes. I also recommend creating / posting consistent content and moving beyond the everything must be perfect and great production mindset. For me spontaneity is the key!
Tubefilter: How do you make your videos stand out amid all the noise on YouTube, especially now that Shorts are so important?
KF: Standing out, for me, on YouTube and Shorts is about being authentic and sharing who you really are and not worrying about perfection. It’s really about showing moments in life that everyone can relate to.

Tubefilter: What’s your favorite part of creating content on YouTube?
KF: The last three months on YouTube have been a whirlwind. My channel has over a BILLION views. Which is absolutely wild! For me, my favorite part of creating content is hoping to add joy to everyone’s everyday life. I also really enjoy every aspect of the creative process!
Tubefilter: What’s next for you and your channel? Future-oriented projects?
KF: The response and feedback I have received since landing at Penn State University has been tremendous! I plan to continue producing daily YouTube short films and mixing my long videos as well. I also absolutely LOVE the holiday season (who doesn’t love it) and I have a lot of ideas / concepts up my sleeve.
And for my future projects! I can’t wait to start a podcast and have a few other fun things in the works. Stay tuned. ??
