Yakuza ‘Toshihiro Nagoshi creator says he doesn’t want to create a fighting game with protagonist Kazuma Kiryu because he doesn’t see his character punching a woman.
In an interview with Red Bull France, Nagoshi said that despite the Yakuza series having a large number of derivative titles including zombie theme Yakuza: dead souls and the inclusion of Kazuma Kiryu in many other games such as Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, he doesn’t see a fighting game like Tekken in Kiryu’s future.

“We have received a lot of requests for this (a fighting game with Kiryu). Of course, there are exceptions, but fighting games usually have female characters, and I personally really don’t want to see Kiryu attacking a woman.
Kazuma Kiryu played the role of the protagonist in seven main lines Yakuza games as well as two remakes and two spinoff titles, where he takes out criminals and thugs across Japan. However, his character takes on the role of the former Mafia boss with a heart of gold, funding an orphanage in many titles and caring for his adopted grandson Haruto on his last outing. It looks like Kiryu won’t be one of them, however, and he won’t appear in his own game either.
